His legal education also included being chosen as one of twelve students to participate in The University of Texas School of Law Immigration Clinic where he won his first asylum case in court. Prior to attending law school, he graduated first in his class from the University of Houston.

He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Houston Young Lawyers Association (HYLA), and Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA). He speaks Spanish fluently.
